The Kirklands family is getting ready to sell the Calgary Flames franchise.
The Calgary Sun reports the family has sold the team for $1.2 billion to a group led by private equity firm KKR.
The Kirklanders’ family has owned the team since 1988.
The paper reports the sale includes assets such as arenas, suites, the team’s corporate headquarters, training facilities, an NHL-branded hotel and a new shopping mall.
Kirklands, 58, is a former general manager of the St. Louis Blues and an NHL captain.
He was also the general manager for the New York Rangers from 1995-2004.
